Our credibility depends on accuracy. When we make mistakes, we correct them quickly, transparently, and with accountability. This policy explains how we handle errors across our website, apps, newsletters, and social channels.
1) What we mean by an “error”
An error is any factual inaccuracy, material omission, miscaption, misquote, incorrect attribution, wrong image/video, incorrect link, or misleading headline/summary. Typos and style fixes that do not change meaning are not treated as corrections (see “Minor edits”).
2) How to request a correction
-
Email: corrections@mirrornews24.com
-
Editorial desk: editorial@mirrornews24.com
-
What to include: URL, headline, published date/time, the specific passage in question, the correction you propose, and any supporting sources (links/documents).
-
For legal or privacy concerns: privacy@mirrornews24.com (or use our Privacy Request Form if available).
We review all requests. If you don’t receive acknowledgment within 1 business day, please follow up.
3) Our review process
-
Triage: An editor acknowledges the request and logs it in our corrections tracker.
-
Verification: Reporter/editor reviews notes, transcripts, data, and source materials; additional reporting may be commissioned.
-
Decision: The managing editor (or designee) determines whether a correction, clarification, update, editor’s note, or retraction is warranted.
-
Action: We amend the story, add a correction note, update timestamps, and—when material—notify readers through appropriate channels.
-
Record: We retain an internal record of the change, including what changed, when, and why.
4) Types of fixes & how they’re labeled
a) Minor edits (no note)
-
Grammar, spelling, style, formatting, and link hygiene that do not alter meaning.
-
We may silently update these and refresh the “Updated” timestamp.
b) Clarification
-
Additional context that improves understanding but does not correct a factual error.
-
Labeled at the foot of the article, e.g., “Clarification (Aug 10, 2025): Added context about …”
c) Correction (material error)
-
Fixes to facts, figures, names, dates, locations, quotes, images, or headlines that change the meaning.
-
Labeled prominently at the top or foot of the article (top for significant impact), e.g.:
-
“Correction (Aug 10, 2025, 14:05 IST): This story previously stated ___. It should have stated ___.”
-
d) Update (developing story)
-
New, material information in a live or evolving story (e.g., official statements, revised tolls, match results).
-
Marked with “Updated” timestamp and, when appropriate, an Update box summarizing what changed.
e) Editor’s note
-
Used for broader issues affecting multiple stories (e.g., methodology changes) or to explain significant discrepancies.
f) Retraction
-
Issued when core claims are proven false or unverifiable, or when ethical breaches warrant withdrawal.
-
The original URL remains with a retraction notice explaining why, what went wrong, and who approved it.
5) Headlines, images, and social posts
-
If a headline, caption, thumbnail, or social post is inaccurate or misleading, we correct it and add a correction note to the article.
-
On platforms we control (e.g., our social channels), we post a corrected version and, where possible, attach a note linking to the correction. If the platform does not support edits, we may delete and repost with a note.
6) Third-party syndication and partners
When a corrected or retracted story has been syndicated, we notify partners with the corrected copy and request an update or takedown. We cannot guarantee third-party compliance but make good-faith efforts to ensure downstream accuracy.
7) Timeframes
-
Safety-critical or high-impact errors: We aim to correct within 24 hours of verification.
-
Standard corrections: As soon as verification is complete.
-
Complex cases may require additional reporting; we will still place a temporary note if appropriate (“We are reviewing concerns about …”).
8) Accountability & transparency
-
Every corrected article carries a visible correction/clarification/retraction note and an Updated timestamp.
-
We avoid “stealth edits.” For significant changes, we summarize what changed and why.
-
Repeat or systemic issues trigger a review of our workflows, training, and source practices.
9) User-generated content (UGC)
Comments, community posts, and submissions reflect the poster’s views. If UGC contains claims presented as facts that appear false or harmful, we may label, remove, or request evidence. Report UGC issues to moderation@mirrornews24.com with the URL and details.
10) Data, graphics, and interactive tools
If a dataset, chart, or interactive feature contains an error (methodology, label, unit, or calculation), we correct the artifact, note the change in the article and/or methodology page, and—where feasible—publish a data revision note.
11) Conflicts of interest & ethics
If a correction reveals undisclosed conflicts or sourcing problems, we will add an editor’s note describing the steps taken (e.g., added disclosures, sourcing changes) and update our internal ethics log.
12) Legal, privacy, and safety considerations
We may limit the detail we publish in a correction when doing so would violate privacy laws, court orders, or present safety risks. In those cases, we will state that a correction was made and give the maximum context we can.
